Göteborgs Rapé Botaniska Review

seems like it happens a lot at summertime, too. You may remember some of these intriguing tastes:

May 2018: Blueberry Flavor
May 2021: West Coast IPA
May 2022: Fladerbris (Elderflower flavor)
May 2023: Gullbergs Kaj (rhubarb flavor)

Of those, 2021’s West Coast IPA was my favorite, and probably one of my all time favorite snuses I’ve had yet. Now, it is the summer of 2024, and Swedish Match is back at it again with another limited edition GR flavor, this one with a ‘botanical’ inspiration. The flavor description for this one says it has “a light and nuanced tobacco flavor with hints of cherry, slight notes of citrus and a sweet floral finish”. That sounds pretty tasty to me!

Let’s open up one of these cans and look at what’s inside

You’ll see these portions come in the Star Formation, which is something unique to Swedish Match products. They are sightly wedged, so I suggest rolling them around to loosen up the tobacco before you put one under your lip. Each can weighs 21.6 grams and has 24 portions, weighing 0.9 grams each. The nicotine content is 8mg/g, which breaks down to 7.2mg/portion in total. You’ll also find the catch lid on top, which is where you can deposit your used portions if you aren’t near a trash receptacle.

Now, let’s put in a portion and give this snus a review!

In the aroma department, this one has quite a lovely scent to it. Cherry is the heavy hitter in the aroma. It’s almost a black cherry, and comes through in a gentle, lightly sweet way. I don’t pick up a lot of citrus, but it does have a very subtle floral undertone. The portions are pretty soft once you get them fluffed up, and have a nice feel under the lip. They’re not super moist, due to the white portion format, and have a gradual release of flavor.

The taste is a pretty nice, bright flavor. The cherry is most of what you’re going to taste. It’s gentle, and has a subtle sweetness to it. I pick up what is perhaps a very faint citrus in the background, but it’s not something that comes through in a major way. There is a light, floral undertone to this one that actually works pretty decently with the cherry. The nicotine strength on this one sits at the regular level, and I find it to have a comfortable, satisfying delivery. The flavor lasts a solid hour, sometimes a little bit more!

Snubie’s Final Thoughts

When I first heard about this one, I thought it was going to be a snus with a floral taste. However, in the end, I was surprised to encounter a snus that has a fresh, bright taste of cherry. There aren’t a lot of snus products with a cherry flavor to them, so this was one that caught me off guard. Should you try it? Absolutely.

While not something I will use full time, I can say I’m going to keep a few cans around this summer to enjoy. With limited editions, you never know if they’re going to come back or not, so if you like it, make sure and stock up. Once it’s gone, it could be gone for good!
