Kapten Salmiak Extra Strong Review

I’ve always really enjoyed Kapten Salmiak. Many, many years ago, a good friend of mine was visiting and placed a snus order at my place. One of the products he saw that was on sale that week was Kapten Salmiak. So, he grabbed some extra for me as well when he did his order. Whenever it came in, I was surprised with how much I enjoyed it and how quickly I got through the cans that I got.

Nowadays, it’s something that I’ll grab here and there when I have a craving for it. I don’t see many people talking about this one, so I figured it would be a fun one to do a review of today!

The flavor description for this one says it has “a clear taste of licorice”. When you open it up, you’ll notice this comes in the Star Formation now. PMI owns AG Snus, but recently purchased Swedish Match, which means that now many Kapten white portion products come in the Star Formation you see with others like General, Grov, Ettan, etc. Each can weighs in at 18 grams and has 20 portions, which means 0.9 gram portions. As an X-Stark, the nicotine content is 18.60mg/g. With 0.9 gram portions, 16.74mg per portion.

Let’s get into this can and check this out, shall we? This one has a nice, salty aroma of black licorice to it. It’s pretty simple, and gentle in it’s presence. The portions are pretty soft, but the tobacco inside is slightly firm, so I do suggest rolling these around in your fingers to loosen the tobacco up. Once you put them under your lip you’ll find they feel pretty good. They have a gradual release of flavor due to the white portion format.

The taste is pretty solid. It’s gentle, and mild, but not weak or lacking. The salmiak flavor comes through clearly, with a slight salty nature to it. There’s a mild tobacco base under it all, as well. In the nicotine kick, this one feels to be a little above the strong level, but not too overbearingly strong. It has a good kick, but it’s not too much. The flavor longevity is also impressive, lasting up to an hour, sometimes more!

This is a really good, and really underrated snus! If you like the taste of licorice, or salmiak, you’re going to enjoy this one. I don’t see many people talking about it, so it was nice to sit down and share a review of this one with the snus community. If you haven’t had it before, give either a go on your next order!
